  Education

Education is the great equalizer in our society. Those who have a solid foundation thrive and those who don’t rapidly fall behind. Early childhood learning opportunities give young children a head start. All day kindergarten strengthens their preparation and provides working parents with a safe and secure environment for their children. Adequate funding for public schools and after school enrichment ensures that the promise of equal education is fully realized. And support for our great public institutions of higher learning puts a college degree within reach of many of the state’s poorer residents.

Anthony Petruccelli has been a leader in the area of education:

· He supports the extended learning time grants currently before the legislature and already proven successful in schools like Umana Barnes

· He supported in-state tuition rates for children of immigrants because every child, no matter how they got to our shores, deserves the benefits of education.

· He supports the use of standards like MCAS but believes that the system should recognize the “whole child”. He believes that no one test can fully assess a child’s capability or potential and would support more flexible approaches.
