A strong economy and an abundance of good paying jobs are the cornerstone of a successful community. When people work, families are more stable, neighborhoods are safer, citizenship is stronger. The very fabric of the community is strengthened.
Anthony Petruccelli has worked hard over the past 8 years to create jobs in the Commonwealth:
· He supports the stem cell research initiative which will make Massachusetts a national leader in this exciting and rapidly expanding new sector. Industries like this (as well as renewable energy and nanotechnology) will help Massachusetts keep the many young and talented individuals our universities educate every year.
· He supports the addition of slots at the tracks. The thoroughbred industry is vital to the Massachusetts economy and generates thousands of jobs and more than $300 million in revenue. Adding slots has proven to bolster the success and the vitality of these tracks in other states and would do so here in Massachusetts.
· He is proud to serve as the Chairperson for the Committee on Small Business and supports the expansion of technical assistance to small business. Indeed, he recently has filed an amendment for $2.5 million in additional funding. Anthony’s grandfather owned a small business for more than 60 years and his wife is herself an entrepreneur. As a result he understands the unique needs of small business and their unique role in job creation.
However, the strength of every economy depends on every component paying their fair share. Everyone benefits from the services provided by the state – roads, schools, public safety and the cost cannot fall unduly on any one segment. Unfortunately property taxes, particularly those paid by citizens with limited income, have sky-rocketed in Massachusetts as the state has cut back on local aid.
· That is why Anthony Petruccelli is sponsoring the Tax Fairness which closes a 90 year old tax loophole and requires companies like Verizon to pay their fair share.
